Subject: Double checking acceleration numbers
Hello..

Been tuning my machine and wanted to double check some numbers..

My Y index operates at 6518 counts per inch.

400 Inch Per Min = 6.6 inch per second

So my entry for Velosity would be  ~43670 counts to be ~400 IPM

What would my acceleration value be if I desired a 25 Inch Per Min Acceleration>?

Thinking it would be 162950 but could be wrong.

Hi Bill,

Your velocity calculation is correct.

But "Inch Per Min" is not units of acceleration.

Acceleration is usually in units of Inches/sec^2

So maybe you mean 25 in/sec^2 ?  That is a reasonable number for most machines.  1G of acceleration is 384 in/sec^2.  So that would be 0.065G.   Also the time to fully accelerate to 6.6 in/s would be 6.6/25 = 0.26 sec

To convert inches to counts multiply by the 6518 counts/inch whether a velocity or acceleration.

25in/sec^2 x 6518 cnts/in = 162950 cnts/sec^2

So yes your number is correct.
